Your suggested route

The times below are suggested allowances, not live opening hours or transport schedules. Adjust the order for your arrival time, bookings and conditions.

  1. Early morning · Ingham supplies

Start in Ingham with breakfast, fuel, water and a picnic. Treat Wallaman as the day’s main destination. Mountain access and the return walk are enough to fill the day without combining it with another distant waterfall.

  2. Morning · Main lookout

Arrive at Wallaman Falls and spend 30–45 minutes at the main lookout and designated viewing areas. The view from above is a complete experience in itself. Read the current track information before deciding whether a descent is suitable for your fitness, the weather and the time remaining.

  3. Optional midday · Djinda walk

If the track is open and you are prepared for the steep return, follow the signed Djinda walk towards the base. Allow a generous three hours including rests and viewing time, rather than treating the approximately 3.2-kilometre return distance as an easy stroll. The climb back is the demanding part.

  4. Afternoon · Picnic and daylight return

Rest and eat after returning to the top, then drive back to Ingham in daylight. If you chose the lookout-only version, spend longer enjoying the forest setting or return for a relaxed town lunch. There is no need to add a strenuous trail to justify the trip.

Where to pause for food

Bring lunch and snacks; do not depend on finding a café at the falls. Carry sufficient drinking water on the descent rather than leaving most of it in the car. Ingham is the practical place for a meal before or after the park.

Getting around

A car or suitable organised excursion is needed. Check the approach road and allow for slower driving on bends. Avoid a tight onward booking because walking pace, mist and road conditions can all change the day’s timing.

For a shorter day or different weather

The main lookout is the recommended alternative for anyone uncomfortable with a steep hike. In storms or after severe rain, postpone rather than trying to reach the base. This guide does not recommend night walking on the descent.

Before you go

Use the official Djinda track description and current alerts. Start the walk only with enough daylight and energy for the return. Stay on designated paths and viewing areas; do not swim at the base or climb boulders to approach the falling water.
