Your suggested route

The times below are suggested allowances, not live opening hours or transport schedules. Adjust the order for your arrival time, bookings and conditions.

  1. Day 1 · Morning · Dadaocheng

Begin around Dihua Street with breakfast and a slow look at tea, dried-goods and fabric businesses alongside newer shops. Allow two hours with a tea stop. Keep entrances clear and ask before taking close photographs inside working stores.

  2. Day 1 · Afternoon · Longshan and the old city

Have lunch, then travel to Longshan Temple for a respectful visit before exploring a manageable section of the surrounding streets. Continue towards Ximending if you want shopping and an evening meal. Avoid treating several distant night markets as a single food crawl.

  3. Day 2 · Morning · One museum or cultural visit

Choose a collection that interests you and give it two to three hours, checking its opening day and travel distance. Have a seated lunch afterwards. If selecting the National Palace Museum, allow a substantial transfer rather than assuming it is beside central Taipei’s other stops.

  4. Day 2 · Late afternoon · Xiangshan

Travel towards Xiangshan for the Elephant Mountain trail if conditions suit. Allow 90 minutes to two hours including the steep steps and viewpoint pauses. Descend with sufficient light or appropriate preparation, then have dinner around Xinyi or return to your base.

Where to pause for food

Try a breakfast shop, a noodle lunch and a tea stop across the two days. Choose one night-market area for a few small dishes rather than planning a full meal at every stall. Ask about ingredients, especially sauces and broths that may contain unexpected meat or seafood.

Getting around

Use MRT between districts and walk locally. Allow extra time for museums outside the central cluster. Xiangshan is convenient to reach by public transport, but the trail itself is a climb; transport access does not make it step-free.

For a shorter day or different weather

In rain or low visibility, replace Xiangshan with an indoor visit or a booked Taipei 101 observation experience if it appeals. With one day, choose the older districts and one meal-focused evening. Skip a climb if wet steps or your mobility make it unsuitable.

Before you go

Confirm museum hours and current trail notices. Tea tastings or popular restaurants may need reservations. The recommended walking time is a comfortable allowance, not a claim that every visitor can reach the viewpoint in a few minutes.
