Your suggested route

The times below are suggested allowances, not live opening hours or transport schedules. Adjust the order for your arrival time, bookings and conditions.

  1. Day 1 · Morning · Yu Garden

    Begin with Yu Garden if open, allowing 90 minutes for the garden rather than only the surrounding shopping streets. Browse the nearby old-city area afterwards and have lunch. Keep the morning compact so you can enjoy details without rushing across town.

  2. Day 1 · Afternoon and evening · The Bund

    Walk a comfortable section of the Bund, pause for a drink and return towards the waterfront as evening approaches. Allow two hours with breaks. Choose dinner on the same side of the river; a skyline photograph does not require an expensive rooftop reservation.

  3. Day 2 · Morning · Wukang and the former French Concession

    Explore the Wukang Road area and nearby streets at a slow pace, allowing two to three hours with breakfast or coffee. Notice architecture and working neighbourhoods, respecting residential entrances. Do not enter private lanes or obstruct traffic to photograph a corner building.

  4. Day 2 · Afternoon · Museum or Pudong

    Choose one museum collection, checking the exact branch and booking arrangements, or travel to Pudong for an observation deck if visibility suits. Allow a substantial afternoon for either. Finish with a meal near your chosen area rather than attempting both options and another shopping district.

Where to pause for food

Try xiaolongbao or shengjian with a seated lunch, checking how hot fillings should be eaten carefully. Add a noodle meal or Shanghainese dinner according to preference. A coffee stop in the Wukang area belongs in the route; several famous café queues do not need to.

Getting around

Use metro between clusters and walk locally. The Huangpu separates the Bund from Pudong, so allow for an actual crossing. Keep the Chinese names and exact addresses of your accommodation and booked venues available for transport and entry.

For a shorter day or different weather

In rain, make the museum the second-day anchor. If skyline visibility is poor, enjoy Pudong at street level or stay in the older districts. With one day, choose Yu Garden and the Bund rather than trying to sample the entire city.

Check garden and museum opening days, reservation requirements and the specific observation-deck ticket. Set up a practical payment method and keep a backup. This route is a recommended city introduction, not a reconstruction of Andy’s exact days.
