Your suggested route
The times below are suggested allowances, not live opening hours or transport schedules. Adjust the order for your arrival time, bookings and conditions.
Morning · Ferry and orientation
Book a morning ferry to Wadjemup/Rottnest Island and note your return sailing before leaving the mainland. On arrival, collect the official map and any reserved bike. Spend a little time understanding the settlement and the island’s history before treating the day solely as a beach circuit.
Late morning · A short northern-bay ride
Choose a manageable ride towards The Basin and nearby northern bays, stopping where conditions suit. Allow two to three hours including breaks. Do not commit to a full-island circuit simply because you hired a bike; wind and hills can make the return much more demanding than the outward ride.
Lunch · Picnic or settlement
Eat a picnic at an appropriate spot or return to the settlement for lunch. Leave food secured and do not feed quokkas. Wildlife photographs should be taken without touching, surrounding or enticing animals.
Afternoon · One beach and time to return
Choose one beach or a short walking visit, then return the bike and head to the ferry with a generous buffer. If cycling is not comfortable, use the island’s current bus or tour options and make fewer, longer stops.
