Your suggested route

The times below are suggested allowances, not live opening hours or transport schedules. Adjust the order for your arrival time, bookings and conditions.

  1. Morning · Travel to the correct park area

Arrange transport from Chiang Mai to Pha Chor in Mae Wang National Park, confirming the actual visitor entrance. Carry water and a snack before leaving the city. This is a dedicated landscape outing, not a stop to add casually to Doi Inthanon.

  2. Late morning · Designated nature route

Check in with local staff and follow the open signed trail to the formations. Allow roughly 90 minutes to two hours including steps, uneven ground and pauses. Read the landscape information and look from permitted viewpoints rather than scrambling on fragile surfaces.

  3. Lunch · Picnic or agreed local stop

Eat at a permitted picnic area or a restaurant agreed with your driver. Take a shaded break before deciding whether another short official path suits your energy and the weather. Carry rubbish out and avoid assuming food is available at every entrance.

  4. Afternoon · Return to Chiang Mai

Keep the return unhurried, with one simple café stop if convenient. Finish in the city for dinner. The main value is time with the formations, not padding the day with distant attractions that add driving without a coherent route.

Where to pause for food

Bring drinking water and arrange lunch in advance, especially on quieter weekdays. A packed meal gives flexibility if local businesses are closed. Keep food and rubbish away from the formations and use designated rest areas.

Getting around

A driver or organised excursion is useful because convenient return public transport cannot be assumed. Agree waiting time, entrance location and the return journey. Use current local directions; similarly named park areas can lead a navigation search away from the intended trail.

For a shorter day or different weather

After heavy rain, choose a Chiang Mai cultural day if park staff advise against access. With limited mobility, ask specifically about steps and uneven surfaces before booking. Do not replace a closed path with an unofficial route to the same cliff.

Before you go

Confirm current park access and trail conditions directly or through your operator. Published trail distances vary with the route and start point, so allow a generous walking budget. Stay behind barriers and avoid touching or climbing the eroded formations.
