Your suggested route

The times below are suggested allowances, not live opening hours or transport schedules. Adjust the order for your arrival time, bookings and conditions.

  1. Day 1 · Arrival · Town and waterfront

    Reach Cát Bà and check in before having lunch. Walk the town waterfront to get oriented and confirm the next day’s boat departure point. Keep this afternoon flexible because the journey may involve both road and water transport.

  2. Day 1 · Afternoon · A land-based choice

    Choose a suitable short national-park visit with arranged transport, or a local beach and café if you prefer less movement. Confirm the actual trail and return time before committing. Do not assume every viewpoint shown on older maps remains open.

  3. Day 2 · Morning · Lan Hạ Bay

    Take a properly equipped day boat with a clearly described route through Lan Hạ Bay. Prioritise time among the limestone scenery over a long checklist of landings. Kayaking is optional and should follow the guide’s route, tide and weather assessment.

  4. Day 2 · Afternoon · Lunch and return

    Use the included meal if offered and enjoy the remaining permitted stops. Return to Cát Bà with a buffer. If the boat occupies the full day, stay another night rather than promising an immediate connection to Hanoi or a flight.

Where to pause for food

Have a seated town lunch on arrival and confirm boat-meal inclusions. Ask seafood prices and preparation before ordering. Carry drinking water and a snack, especially if transfers leave little choice about meal timing.

Getting around

Book the full journey to Cát Bà, checking whether it includes the island transfer and hotel drop-off. A cruise departing elsewhere in Hạ Long is not automatically convenient from your Cát Bà hotel. Verify the exact pier before paying.

For a shorter day or different weather

In poor marine weather, postpone the bay trip and use a suitable land-based outing. If you dislike kayaking, choose a boat with enough comfortable viewing space. A national-park trek deserves its own time rather than being squeezed between ferry connections.

Before you go

Check boat licensing, passenger numbers, flotation equipment, inclusions and cancellation terms. Confirm local access after storms. This plan may require two nights to provide both an arrival afternoon and a full bay day without rushing.
